Gadgets and Gizmos

I think the best part about this new dot.com page designing blogging is all of the different gadgets and gizmos there are out there for you to add to your page to make it yours.

Who knew there could be so many fun things to incorporate into a place you share yourself with others...but once you start looking...the next thing to do is figure out where you want to put everything.

Earlier today we found some cute little add-ons and we have been trying those out not only for all to see, such as my count down to SAS counter and my IP visitor counter...but a few utilities for ease of maintaining the page. Granted, the SAS counter is all in fun and my attempt to be silly....but this IP counter is nice as its not like the page visits counter here on BlogSpot that records every click on every page regardless of how many times the same person flips around.  One person can change the counter on average at least ten times depending on what they are checking out.
 
This counter uses unique IP addresses so if you come to the site you count as one visit regardless of how many times you flip around checking things out.  Come back tomorrow and you were already counted.  I learn something new everyday.

And I will be the first to admit, after day one I was not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.  After day two I was ready to hide under the bed.  And after a few more clicks and a lot of patience from my brother... I am finding an interest now in seeing what's next.

While shopping with my friend this past weekend at Hallmark, I got to smell the new "man" candles from Yankee Candle and I only have one word to express my thoughts on how they smelled.

Yuck.

That bacon candle was the worst I have ever smelled....And I mean the kind of bad that you lift the lid and smell it....and put your face down into it one more time because you can't believe it stinks that bad.

So I will be passing on this line of candles.  They were sold out of the Movie Night candle so I didn't get to smell that one but if it is anything like all of the others....I am not missing a thing.

Early one morning last week I heard the sounds of baby bird squeals coming from the back yard.  It is something I hear daily so I kind of knew what it was...just not where it was.  But on further investigation I saw that up in the soffit of my neighbors house a family of Starlings were just about to the fledgling stage and they were busy taking turns being fed by mom and dad.

They would all line up and scoot back and forth in this small little opening, pushing each other vying for that first position where their parents would land to share the treat.

At first I was frozen watching this feeding time dance and then I thought....go get the camera.  Even though its pretty much across the two neighboring yards I thought I could get a few good photos.  And I did.  Our local paper actually published two of them and gave me the byline credit.

Today as I was outside putting the last of the bedding plants into the pots, this little cluster of babies was following one parent around the yard, still chipping away as he took turns feeding them.  Like baby ducks they followed him everywhere he went getting up close to me and my bags of dirt before turning and trying another area to search in.

The shot of the four of them coming out with mouths open was dumb luck I think...that precise moment of my clicking the shutter with a full zoom and not missing it.  And it makes me smile every time I see it. 

Being used on my front page of my blog also makes me smile as it had to be blown up a bit to fit within the parameters of the page..making them now look like something that would come out of the Munsters grandfather clock....or be on the cover of an Edgar Allen Poe book.....

The unofficial start to summer was two days ago, Memorial Day,  and the official day isn't for another 3+ weeks...yet tomorrow the temperatures here are suppose to be in the 90's. See, that is what happens when you call something unofficial....it wants to prove that it isn't.

In two days the calendar page will turn from May to June and we will be here ushering in all of those things warm weather related. I am not sure I am ready for that much warm weather yet all at once. I have yet to put away the snow shovel as we have had frost here on MONDAY. 

But I am excited to see spring slowly move towards summer for a few reasons. 

• Planting flowers....yep, most definitely.  I am going to be doing more of that tomorrow before the big heat hits. 
• Fresh veggies from the farms and my yard....  There is something soul soothing to me to see a tiny little seed turn into a bright and colorful....not to mention edible, thing I created with my own hands. 
• Coffee and tea nights on my front porch with my family.
• Visits to the lake for nature photo taking
• And seeing my great niece enjoying an amusement park

Of course with all of that there is also the excitement of Bath & Body Works Semi Annual Sale....which is the mid-year point where we all know....new is coming. 

I was up the attic today looking through my collection of Slatkin things and when I see my haunted houses it makes me smile.  I know, I know.....we aren't even into summer yet and here I am thinking and writing about fall but it was those things that got me started into this obsessive addiction of all things B&BW.  How could you walk past the store front where there is a table of Brightly colored ceramics looking at you....in Halloween themes? 

So I am looking forward to each and every day left of springtime... while summer is close on her heels.  Because I know in no time....the fall test scent candles will be out (in two months)....signaling the beginning of blogging mania....my other soul soother.

So you spend hours switching things and flipping things only to discover after midnight when you remember to check the dot com blog page with your I-touch  or (cell phone) product that....  the layout you chose has no great mobile version.

As soon as I saw the search box up into the blog title I knew .... back to the drawing board.

I try to make the page as esthetically pleasing as possible but with functionality as a priority...and sometimes you cannot know of an issue until your done adding things. What looks great on a desktop is not everywhere else....

Who knew?

Since a lot of my viewing from others is done on their cell phones I will be sure sometime today to get this adjusted.

Pretty in Pink

The page should be done flipping around for tonight so thank you all for tolerating the occasional color changes as the page was tweeked.  It is now all pretty in pink....  Pink type that is.  Of course I may add a new thing here and there occasionally as I keep my page fresh, but the dance of the page should be a nice quiet waltz for a while.

Tomorrow I will be posting a new video and blog showcasing the new Slatkin items I ordered from QVC...so keep a watch should you be interested in the sizing on the luminaries.

Frozen Summer Sangria

Ingredients:

6 oz frozen mango chunks
3 oz frozen peach slices
3 oz frozen pineapple chunks
4 cups ice
1/2 a lime, peeled
1 orange, peeled and halved
1-3/4 cup white wine
1/2 cup brandy
1/4 cup sugar

Directions:

Place the ingredients into a blender and blend for 45–60 seconds, or until the drink is completely smooth. Serve immediately.

It's raining here today.  That soft kind of rain that gently dampens your world just enough to move outdoor plans indoors...all while chilling you to the bones.

I should take in this chill and enjoy it as the end of this week it is predicted to be in the high 90's here.

There were no traditional Memorial Day things happening here yesterday. No hotdogs and hamburgers on the grill with bowls of potato salad and macaroni salad waiting to dress the picnic table. No boisterous voices of friends and family were heard...they were at their own homes doing their own things enjoying the bluest of blue skies.  Those things are now replaced with he and I clearing off winters wrath taken on the graves while planting spring and summertime flowers making them look like someone still cares.  Someone does.  And no matter how many days, weeks, months and years pass...it will always be Not right. She belongs here with us and family like all of the years before.

But we muddle through.  We find those things to distract ourselves to the point of exhaustion so we don't dwell and mourn so hard.  And that's what we did....spending as much time as we could together outside before getting ready for the week ahead.

And today I planned on planting more seeds in the garden and getting the last of the bedding plants into the flower pots but that will need to wait for another day.  So I am sitting here waiting for the inspiration to clean my back porch.....(this is the area that I nearly broke my foot off last year) so I hesitate a bit.  Okay, that reason as well as being distracted by the email from Victorias Secrets with their Semi Annual Sale link. 

So with a small order placed, and my house filled with the scent of a B&BW Pumpkin Cupcake candle I am ready to go take on that porch.

And then the phone rings and my brother calls to tell me he has found some really great templates and wants to know if I want to try these out.  After scrolling through a dozen or so ideas, we have found a few we really like and will implement later....after his mid-day trip to the movies to see Fast and the Furious.  I was invited but I did pass.  Too much visual motion will trigger vertigo and I still have too much more to do today.

So sometime later, the look of my blog on the dot com end with change a bit.  I guess you can call it growing pains... ha ha. 

And while I am speaking of it, let me give a great big virtual hug out there to all who are stopping by my page and checking me out.  For those who are registered you can see everything.....and for those who aren't yet registered you are pretty much seeing what has been posted here previously.  At any given time I can see how many registered users are on my page as well as how many guests. My brother is amazed at all of the countries who are visiting me daily...this little blog about nothing really....but my Life.  And for all of you to take that time to stop by I am humbled and grateful.

Well, that porch closet is not going to clean itself....and I think I just heard the buzzer on the dryer so I am off to do some domestic goddess chores.  I hope wherever you are, you are enjoying blue skies and happiness today and always.

I must say, I have a greater respect for BlogSpot now after working on designing my own web page.

You get a bit complacent when you write on the same page day after day.  It's all a template and you write and click and everything in the back is done for you. You come to expect so much never thinking about where it all comes from, until you start doing it for yourself and you realize...It is a lot of work.

And with all of the different bloggers on here writing, they must be going mad with security and trying to keep up with answering all of the issues that arise. 

But what people forget is they know who everyone is at all times with our IP addresses down to the states we reside in.  You can sign in as Anonymous all you want....they know who you are and every place you have visited on this site to the seconds of time with these fantastic programs that are out there for the taking.  They are implemented on my page and I must say,  people are behaving very civilized which makes writing and sharing a pleasure.

Maybe if more people realized that, there would be less drama llamas floating around on the internet.  I knew with that issue that happened not too long ago regarding me that it would be proved that it wasn't me by looking at the numbers. 

And every day I search and find a new gizmo that adds another interesting thing to my page to make sharing all of my silliness even that much easier. 

Just know, when you click onto anyone's blog page to read their latest posts....someone else was responsible for the behind the scenes stuff making all of that happen beautifully for you to see and read....just some simple codes added here and there.....and doing it all.....

Pure Paradise Event today

Since no one mentioned the event today, (and continuing on thru Monday) I will tell
 you what it is about and what I got.  If you didn't know that there was an event, your not alone....There wasn't even signage up at the stores entrance to drive sales in today...hence another empty store when I arrived.

Each Sales Associate had a packet of coupons in their pocket and greeted me when I entered asking me what I was looking for.  Actually nothing then, I was waiting for a friend of my mine to join me with her granddaughter and I planned on buying her all of the new pocketbacs.

The manager told me that today was a Pure Paradise event.....(I heard rumblings that it was suppose to be a free fragrance mist with a signature purchase earlier in the week...which was incorrect)  and if you try a pure paradise product you can qualify for one of three coupons they had.

•  One was for a free travel sized item, one was for a free signature item with a specific purchase and the third was for a free EDT with the purchase of $25.00 of Pure Paradise products.

I do love the scrubs in a few of the signature items so I was fortunate enough to get a free EDT coupon pulled and I used the buy three get three free sale....got an assortment of scrubs and picked a Twilight Woods EDT as my gift.  $34.50 item for free, as well as 42.00 worth of scrubs for free too!

Later when my friend joined us in B&BW, I bought her granddaughter 13 pocketbacs, three holders and she got a free travel size coupon and got a free pink chiffon lotion and I used my PP free signature item bounce back  coupon and got her the matching shower gel.

 

 

 

 

I left BBW and went into the Gertrude Hawk store and in the back where they sell the seconds and found a bunch of cute things.  They sell the rolls of wrapping paper off after the season and it's nice quality paper at a great price.  They also sell off the empty containers and this one I was hoping would come up for sale because I saw it at Christmas time but I didn't like the candies offered in it (plus it was expensive)  This three piece stacked set of boxes cost only $2.00.  Perfect for adding gifts to give....as well as storing something on a closet shelf.  If you like things like this, it pays to check out these kinds of stores for deals.

Updates

The image gallery on the blog is now back up and running and the entire set Disney vacation pictures as well as videos are loaded.  I think there are two more videos to be compressed and loaded....

Next I will be loading all of the Bath & Body Works items I want to have stored on there.

It's so awesome~ in seeing the videos of the fireworks and the day and nighttime celebrations happening at Disney everyday.  Not everyone can afford a Disney vacation, and this one category on a blog page let's you experience it in a small way.  Plus if you are planning a Disney vacation, you can look at all of these places visited and see what appeals to you to plan into your own.

I love that I can add so many of these extra things right to my page... where this page limited me to postings, and pictures and links to Youtube.

Like I said, this is all a work in progress and you try different modules of codes to see what fits your needs and sometimes they ...  well, stink.   The last photo module zoomed in reverse on the two photos I had posted...go figure.... So you try another and see how that feels. This is not a premade template page....  which would be great don't get me wrong...I need more sleep , haha.....But I love having my own dot com page. 

Fortunately there are different options available with all of the extras, like downloading and saving both pictures and videos to your own Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter accounts as you view.

So if you stop by and you can't see a whole lot, you may need to log in.

Last night on our way to see the new Star Trek Into the Darkness movie we stopped at the mall first for my brother to grab a few things in The Gertrude Hawk store.....while I stopped for a few things at my play place... B&BW.

It was quiet in there, no other customers and just a few associates milling around trying to look busy.  They always greet me by name and ask what I was in there for....and follow it up with....as if you need anything else.   They know as they are some who sell to me.

The tables were set according to all of the themes of the products with the most current....Pure Paradise out in front. 

I noticed the glowing body lotion tube now in stock there as it was online and decided I wanted to give it a quick try before heading out to the movies.

I was not impressed.  Yes, It's a bronzer...and I am fair and it puts out a slight tint of color to your skin.  But my problem with that is this....summer is HOT....and people sweat....and....if you rub this stuff on your legs and sweat on the car seats you are looking at a mess.

I went into our new car with prewashed- new jeans and got a nice blue cast on the seat....  You can imagine how unhappy hubby is.  Can you imagine adding to that a nice browny orange cast of color?  Um, no.

Even upper body...I am just concerned with transfer.  I use faux tanners and I call BS to any that say they don't transfer onto clothes when applied and dried before dressing. 

So I tried it....and washed my hands and moved onto the next sections of the store.  This store didn't have the new sales catalog yet but my favorite store does and I was told to expect pics tonight of the new-ness. 

But in walking around this store looking for new things there are tables already set up with Big Blue Bins of things on them with the same products I listed in my previous blog that are now 50% off online. 

And even though there are a lot of great items, I am pretty much stocked up on those and I am saving for SAS candles....and was waiting for the new things that came out today on QVC.

Isn't it funny how seeing something so familiar like the blue sale bins can make your heart race just a bit even when you are already stocked up?  Powerful things those bins....but just as powerful,

Harry Slatkin will be back this July to QVC

So I watched the entire B&BW show with Harry Slatkin on it.....YAY....and he spoke about his time of absence and said that he was always around the company...that he and his wife had started his company 22 years ago and that he sold it 7 years ago and bought another company where he is still at....but has always been at BBW and still has a hand in all of the candles and scented things, still working with the same perfumers.

I think that there was such a stink....haha... pun intended, with his not being around...even on QVC (the host mentioned it a million times how she looked for him)  that they did something to get him back up as a front man.

I enjoyed watching this show.  Perhaps absence does make the heart grow fonder....

I purchased three separate orders of things only available to QVC..so I will post photos of them when they come in next week.

He also mentioned at the end of the show he will be back for Christmas in July show programing this coming July so I look forward to seeing something awesome then.  The host blurted out....boxed set so who knows what it is going to be but it will be Christmas themed.

He is part of my reason for a stash in the attic I mentioned on my latest YouTube video showing my body care items.  But how can you resist those white ceramic luminaries?  :)
